20 year celebration of the Children’s Laureate
On 11th February, sponsors Waterstones hosted a party to celebrate 20 years of the Children’s Laureate
Many IBBY colleagues joined the children’s book world and all the laureates,except Quentin Blake, to celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Children’s Laureate. Quentin no longer does public engagements but sent a delightful message read by the current laureate, Lauren Child.
Michael Morpurgo outlined the history of the setting up of the laureate programme and we were very pleased to hear him mention the important role that our very own John Dunne played in the early years.
We also heard an extraordinary summary of the wider contribution that each laureate has made to the world of children’s literature, a lovely pictorial review of which can be found here.
